Knowledge Is Power

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

If there were one thing that was the most powerful thing to know - what would it be?

For instance - you might think that nuclear weaponry is the most powerful thing to know, or maybe you think that ‘the future’ would be something to know - but The Sports Almanac doesn’t exist, so sorry about that.

Or maybe it would be something that could make you a lot of money - say the answer to today’s question. You could be a Onedollaraire by the end of this competition if you knew the best answer.

Unsure Future for One Dollar Jackpot

Monday, February 25th, 2008

Well it’s been a nice weekend. I went away to a conference and got sunburned. I know, you’re thinking, ‘typical conference where you don’t go to the conference bit but to the beach all day’ but you would be wrong. I was outside for lunch for 25 minutes and my nose, arms and knees got toasted! It wasn’t even hot. I didn’t see it coming - I thought, ‘I’ll be fine just here it’s nice in the sun’. But alas I am now itchy and my nose is red. Like Rudolph. So much for powers of prediction! I should have known even without being able to tell the future.

Today it’s cold - at least I’m at work where I can sit inside and not wish I was outside.

The future of winners on this website is uncertain. Many people have predicted their winning the jackpot for the day - you can’t all be right because only one of you can win. I’m sure you’re all very professional future-tellers and whatnot but your skills of creativity aren’t the greatest. Someone predicted ‘Obama ‘08′, I can clearly say that the media in Australia thinks that either Ralph Nader or George W. Bush will win. Like Obama even has a chance!

Here’s a few predictions I have of my own:

  • Fox News will become the leading authority on hard hitting issues.
  • The Internet will drop in influence as the development of e-paper brings back encyclopaedias and the door to door salesman of said encyclopaedias.
  • The USA will appeal to China through the UN for protection against the invading Canadian army in just 20 years.
  • The world will end on 32rd of Janugustber 2043.
  • A new ‘world’ calendar will be introduced before that (along with grammar standards).

Though I think them hardly likely, they’re predictions none-the-less.

So without further ado (but called padding) I would like to bring to your attention the winning entry by Anca. Anca’s vision of the future was one I could subscribe to. I quite enjoy the idea of going on a bus.

What will the future hold for us?
Fresh air again - we’ll all take the bus!

Anca do you live anywhere near LA or Beijing? I suspect the lack of fresh air may have something to do with that!

Congratulations on the win, why not head to an oxygen bar and get a nice suck in of fresh oxygen. But remember, don’t breathe it all at once!

Back to the future

When I was in primary school (school years 3-6) - we were asked to draw a picture of what we thought the future would be like. I remember clearly my idea. Everyone was drawing flying cars and super cars that could do all sorts of crazy things. Space flight (maybe true!) and bizzare buildings. My idea? I thought that all of the shops in my local shopping would be open on Sundays. Yeah. So believe it or not I was the most boring kid at school, but I like to think that I was right. All/most of the shops in my local shopping area are now open on Sundays.

In 25 words or less predict the future

Please please please don’t make your entry as boring as mine would have been.
