All Mankind’s a Winner

Monday, March 10th, 2008

Whew - I am rested after a three day break. It was great to get away just as autumn is popping down to the Southern Hemisphere. So welcome back, things are as they were. One dollar jackpots haven’t started being three dollar jackpots for more than last week’s one (although rumour was that we had tripled the winnings).

So on to our CD and $3 winner! I thought you might have had a few more days to get into the music, listen and enter but still there were only 6 entries. That’s okay, I don’t mind. Maybe it wasn’t the easiest task, maybe you didn’t like the music, maybe you were down the road buying a ham sandwich because you were hungry.

I’m going to list all the entries (reviews of All Mankind) and you can see them below:

  • Sounds a bit like U2, but it’s a good thing. MySpace page is clean and unjunked up which I love; really digging the tunes actually.
  • This music is amazing!
My new second favorite band now, thank you.
Finding a good new band makes me feel like I’ve won already.
    AWESOME
  • In the song I’ve Been Looking For This: I don’t know what he was looking for, but he finally found it, and it sounds great!
  • Their site has a trendy vibe about it, stylish colours, simple but elegant layout. Great video links. Can’t wait for PUZZLES!!!
  • Songs from All Mankind,
do not stick in my mind.
The singer sounds alot like U2’s Bono,
    with the kissing disease mono.
  • Condensing all mankind into a quartet would be a daunting task. No surprises that their music isn’t quite up to snuff. Better luck next time.

What do you think should win? Do you think I should give the CD to the people who didn’t like the music? Or should I cave in and give it to someone who’s being nice to the guys? Well I - as usual will give it to the person who I thought put in the best entry.

Today’s winner though, encapsulates (I don’t think deliberately) some of what others said while speaking about a particular song. Some thought the singer sounds like Bono - fair enough, Bono is a good singer. While Bono hasn’t found what he’s looking for - Maria thinks that Rich has in the song I’ve Been Looking For This. So congratulations to Maria, you have won the CD and three bucks! Your money is on its way, all I have to get from you now is your address to send you the CD.

Meanwhile, I’m off to write the winner for yesterday’s competition and the next competition’s question.

Describe Your Hero in 25 Words or Less

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

I used to think that I didn’t have a hero. I always thought that I didn’t look up to anyone but God (because I’m a Christian). Apparently I was wrong, and I found out by growing older and realised that I took a lot of cues from people around me like my brothers (again with the family stories) and older people who seemed cool. I always like Johnny Depp’s haircut in 21 Jump Street - but not really him as a hero.

I want to know who you look up to now, what they’re like and something about them that you see in yourself or possible in yourself.

I for one - and this is no surprise to anyone who knows me, would like to be like Bono. Not in every way, but there are things that are attractive about his character as I look and see what he has done/said/achieved. But that might be an obvious choice - because who wouldn’t like to be like him in some way?

So tell me about your hero, is it someone famous? It could be your dad, brother, a close friend or someone who you observe from a distance (and know very little about in reality).

You Two All Mankind? #12 Your Favourite Band and Why.

Friday, January 25th, 2008

I like U2 - you might have gained that from the last post about music. I mean, really who doesn’t? I’m kind of obsessed, which is fine with me ’cause they make some good music and I love their lyrics. You surely can’t listen to music without considering the lyrics too.

However I also like this other band - they’ve played to over 100,000 people and they are bringing out their first new album in a couple of months. Their producer has worked on albums from artists like Elton John, Sting, INXS, Midnight Oil and many others. Peter Mayes of PNAU is working on their album too - but it’s not a dance album.

The band is All Mankind - a four piece here in Sydney who have toured in the US and the UK in the last couple of years. They are rocktastic - check them out you might like them too.

Tell me why I might like them and I’ll give you one bonus point. Otherwise just enter the competition and see if you win that coveted dollar!

Something I Will Never Do #11

U2 - Bono I want you to be my daddy

What would you never do? I’m not sure how to answer this question - will I think to the future, or into the past? Strangely enough I came up with the question so here’s some attempt at a few answers:

  • I will never attend U2’s 2nd ZooTV concert in Sydney although I want(ed) to so much. What an idiot I should have gone.
  • I will (hopefully) never again rub my eyes immediately after rubbing them all over a chilli tree. You might think “what an idiot” at this point - you would be right, especially the second time I did it.
  • I will never fall for a Nigerian scam. Actually - I’m going to extend that to spam in general - I will never understand it, especially those ones that make absolutely no sense. At least try to sell me something!
  • I will never understand why she wore lemon.

What will you never do? Enter the competition and let us know!
