Where Would You Instantly Go? or Rob’s Valentine’s Day Update

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

Rob LincolneRemember Rob’s valentine’s day attempts at getting a girl? He’s the guy here in the office that made a box out of wooden pailings from an old fence and sent the box, a flower, a nice letter, self addressed stamped envelope, and a calendar to mark the date that his hopefully-girl would reply with saying ‘let’s go on a date’. Well I’ve got an update on how it went - I even have a few quotes for you that might interest you.

But first - something a little bit different. The winner of today’s competition: In 25 words or less where would you be if you could instantly go anywhere in the world right now?

It was with surprise that I opened up this one, it wasn’t in the usual form of a poem but a single sentence. What got me - was that I hadn’t thought of the idea at all! I don’t know who the entry is referring to, I’d love to find out the whole story behind it so Tish, if you’re listening let us in! Congratulations on the win :)

Where would you be if you could instantly go anywhere in the world right now?

New York, 1998, to stop the man of my dreams from marrying someone else.

Now would you like to hear about Rob’s Valentine’s day attempt? He put in lots of effort and care into his gift to this girl who he was attempting to ‘woo’. I mean who wouldn’t want to receive a carefully hand crafted wooden box with wood shavings and a rose laid inside? Rob even hand delivered it to her work. Talk about a lot of effort - I’m not sure if I’d be bothered. But he put his heart into it.

So a day after he delivered it to this girl he received a letter in reply (just what he was hoping for!) It was in the envelope he left her, it had all the signs of a win. And this is what it said:

The heart, time, energy and courage that went into your gift quite overwhelm me. I’ve never had a valentine like that! Your letter moved me - such open-ness.

Woo! Great work Rob, that’s a fantastic response!

Sadly though…

Sadly?! What do you mean sadly? You were just saying how great it all was!

Sadly though, my heart and situation remain as unavailable and tied elsewhere as they were… I cannot forsee a relationship with you in the way I know you wish it could be.

Did I just hear a door slam shut? I think I did. I think I heard multiple doors slam shut so hard they cracked the door frames. That’s just not good.

It Must have been love - but it’s over now

Do you know what he’s going to do now?

Valentine’s Day Winner in Distant Parklands

Congratulations to Cecile again with her best thing to do on Valentine’s Day:

Got no money,
But it won’t stop me;
To brag all day,
Come what may;
I’m the luckiest,
Loving my best–
Imperfectly best.

Some good entries again today, some proclaiming that you should climb a Hallmark building and reclaim the term ‘holiday’, others saying that the fluff just isn’t right and we should focus on God’s real love for us (I’m assuming that’s Jesus - sounds like a good idea.)

A friend of mine recently bought some roses a few days ahead of the big 14th - 80 bucks? That’s just not right!

How much have you paid for the privilege of getting a smile?

Valentine’s Creativity - Give Your Best For Us

Valentines Day

We met in a bar just a few days ago, and now we’re going out. Some people call Valentine’s Day ‘enforced romance‘ which completely removes the point of the day. Personally I’m not a big fan of Valentine’s Day but I would be if you just put on that amazing event/awesome date or just gave me a wonderful gift.

Could you do something creative for Valentine’s Day? Give it your best - make me swoon, make me think happily-ever-after thoughts.

Like my friend here in the office Rob - he’s just made a box out of wooden pailings from an old fence. It looks great with some wood shavings in it and he’s going to be giving it to his potential girl on Valentine’s Day with a few roses inside…

I think it’s romantic, we’ll see in a few days how it goes.

He’s the same Rob that advertised on Facebook.com for a girlfriend (maybe not so romantic!).
