Is a Hero Worth Having?

Some people say ‘never meet your hero’ because you’ll always be disappointed. You see them from afar - they seem to be what you want to be, what you aim to be but really if you knew them they would turn out to be as simple, stupid and flawed as you. Unless you are your own hero. Then you can just be the best person in your own life.

An interesting range of answers today - some were their own hero, some had their parent/s. Others had someone they probably had never met. Here’s a few of those I received:

  • My hero is Alexander the Great. I never met him, but he conquered all and was truly the first “super star” of the world.
  • I prefer to be my own hero. I stand in awe of the things that I have accomplished in life.
  • I greatly admired McGyver,Since I was so much younger;

    His genius in resourcefulness,

I followed his footsteps, more or less.

  • My great grandma was a hero, at age 85She’d wake up at 6, work, and live life!
  • My hero is my dad. He is always my biggest fan. Even when I goof up, he’s still there to give me a hug.
  • His views are different than mine but debates in a healthy way against me, does not argue. The kind of person I want to be.
  • Slower than a speeding bullet,Sometimes catches the train,

Catches the lift up tall buildings,

Gets wet in the rain … but, oh, what a brain!

Great entries! The depth of emotion behind some of those is great and really comes through. I enjoyed them all :)

However there can be only… one. Today’s winner is Tracey with a nice little poem about her mother. I think mothers decidedly need more poems like this!

my hero? Its my mother
I unconditionally love her
she cleans and cooks - reads my daughter story books,
my hero? it could be no other

Are you a mother? What would you think if your daughter/son wrote something like this about you?
